Service Sunday Is April 23
With Guest Preacher Becca Stevens
On April 23, a week after Easter, we will have another Church Wide Service Day, with a single worship service at 10:00 a.m. At that service our special guest preacher will be Rev. Becca Stevens, an Episcopal priest, chaplain at Vanderbilt University, and CEO of Thistle Farms, which trains and transitions women who have been victims of sex trafficking into gainful employment. Becca Stevens was recently named among CNN’s Top Ten Heroes and is the author of Snake Oil, The Way of Tea and Justice, Letters from the Farm, and other books.
With Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now), we will pack 40,000 nutritious meals for people in undeveloped countries who don’t receive enough nutrition to lead an active, healthy life. We will do this in two locations: Aldersgate’s Wesley Hall and Stratford Landing Elementary School.
Through our Green Bag Ministry, we will pack snacks and weekend meals for food-insecure students at Washington Mill Elementary School and Stratford Landing Elementary School. Green bags and lists of needed items will be distributed during worship beginning April 2. Pick one up, bring it back full, and be part of the group that helps package the food into meal bags in Founders Hall.
Sunday Suppers will be cooking and preparing food in the Wesley Hall Kitchen for the homeless of Washington, DC, and then distributing it that evening. This is a great way to learn more about this vital ministry.
Route One Community Kitchens will be preparing meals in Founders Kitchen that will be served to hungry neighbors at the Elks Lodge on Richmond Highway later in the week.
To help offset the costs of the day, there is a $10/person fee.
